| The 'Familia' spires of Barcelona |
| AN outstanding feature of the Barcelona skyline is Gaudi's Segrada Familia basilica (left). Building work on the structure was stopped when he died in 1926, but resumed again in the 1950s, and continues today as depicted by the 'scenic' tower cranes and scaffold inside the building (below). Barcelona is a city of amazing contrasts from the sublime to the bizarre, as contrasted with these spires and the street performers in La Rambla at the foot of the page, a bustling, popular stretch with tourists worldwide. My whistle-stop tour on this occasion was all too brief, but I shall be back shortly to enjoy the city at a more leisurely pace and take many more photos. |
